I have now applied for shares in my name, my wife’s name and for my stepson. Expect applications to be scaled back. You can only make one application in your own name.
My strategy has slightly changed. If I still hold the shares after three months I will transfer them to my Pension Fund where I hold most of my medium term investments. That will free up funds in my Fund and Share account to look for other opportunities to utilise my annual Capital Gains allowance.
I have been asked if I can be more specific about how to apply. If you don’t already have an account somewhere the simplest route is via Hargreaves Lansdown.
On their Homepage scroll down to where it says FUND AND SHARE ACCOUNT and click OPEN AN ACCOUNT.
Then click OPEN A FUND AND SHARE ACCOUNT ONLINE.
Fill in the form that pops up.
You will need to have funds available in an account from which you can make a debit card transfer.
When complete return to HOME PAGE – top left – and click on Royal Mail Share Offer FIND OUT MORE AND APPLY NOW.
On next page click APPLY NOW. You will need to LOGIN to complete the process.
Don’t leave it to the last minute. The Hargreaves Lansdown site is good but even it may struggle to cope with last minute demand.
